 →About GZU

Guizhou University (GZU) was founded in 1902. GZU has a rich history of more than 120 years and has achieved significant milestones. It is one of the national 211 Project universities and is included in the national Double First-Class Initiative. GZU is also an institution of higher learning developed through ministerial-provincial cooperation between the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the provincial government. It offers a wide range of courses for 12 major disciplines, including literature, history, philosophy, science, engineering, agronomy, medicine, economics, management, law, education and art. GZU has 40 colleges and currently serves over 34,000 full-time undergraduate students and over 16,000 graduate students.


Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

(1) Be non-Chinese citizens, and be in good physical and mental health;

(2) Be a high school diploma holder under the age of 25 when applying for an undergraduate program;

  1. Be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for a master’s program;   

  2. Be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for a doctoral program;

  3. The above age limits can be slightly extended for excellent applicants.



Language Proficiency Requirements

  1. Applicants should submit valid HSK Level 4 report when applying for undergraduate, master’s or doctoral programs instructed in Chinese. Applicants who have used Chinese as a teaching language to obtain a degree from a Chinese university do not need to provide the Chinese Language Proficiency Test (HSK) certificate.

(2) Applicants should provide English language proficiency certificates (such as TOEFL and IELTS), who have used English as a teaching language to obtain a highest degree must provide proof of English teachingas well as passing the English proficiency test of GZU when applying for undergraduate, master’s or doctoral programs instructed in English.

(2) Free on-campus dormitory accommodation



Scholarship Duration

The scholarship duration is 4 years for bachelor’s students, 3 years for master’s students, and 4 years for doctoral students.

Application Procedure

(1) Applicants need to submit their applications through the International Student Service System of GZU at https://gzu.at0086.cn/StuApplication/Login.aspx. Register an account and log in to start with the application process. Below is a screenshot of the system:

  1. Fill in your basic information faithfully, correctly and completely, either in Chinese or English, upload your application documents, and click “Submit” to finalize your application after confirming all items.


Application Documents

(1) Guizhou University Application Form for  Overseas Students (in Chinese or English);

(2) Copy of Passport Front Page (the passport duration should cover your period of proposed study);

(3) Notarized highest diploma. Prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status by their current school. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations;

(4) Notarized highest academic transcripts. These transcripts should be issued and sealed by the attended school’s academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department. Transcripts can be in Chinese or English, but must be attached with notarized English translations if they are in languages other than Chinese and English;

(5) Foreigner Physical Examination Form. The form is designed by the Chinese quarantine authority and can be obtained from the dispatching authority. Physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take a physical examination as the result is only valid for 6 months;

(6) Sponsorship certificate (certificate of deposit, RMB20,000 per year or equivalent);

(7) Non-criminal record. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission of the application.

(8) Language proficiency certificates. Applicants for programs instructed in Chinese must submit valid HSK test reports in accordance with the Chinese proficiency requirements. Applicants for programs instructed in English must provide English proficiency certificates as required, like IELTS or TOFEL reports;

(9) Recommendation letters. A letter of recommendation (written in either Chinese or English) from an associate professor or above is required for undergraduate candidates; two letters of recommendation (written either in Chinese or English) from professors or associate professors are required for master’s and doctoral candidates;

(10) A study plan or research proposal. Applicants shall submit a detailed study plan or a research proposal written in either Chinese or English;

(11) Applicants under the age of 18 must submit valid documents that attest to their legal guardians residing in China.
